Secure $33 million for rural universities to train more healthcare workers plus 75 additional Commonwealth Supported Places
The proposal would provide a $33 million Commonwealth investment for rural universities to train more healthcare workers, and 75 additional Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) for medicine, nursing and allied health in rural areas.
The investment for rural universities would be split between $23 million to train rural doctors, and $10 million for nurses and allied health workers.
The proposal would start on 1 July 2025.

The proposal would replace the existing Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) with a concessional loan arrangement.
The total amount of the CPP (depending on the length of the work placement requirement for each study field), paid to eligible students under the 2024-25 Budget measure Australian Universities Accord – tertiary education system reforms, would be converted to a concessional loan, added to each student’s Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) debt.
The proposal would be ongoing and start on 1 July 2025.
