Parliamentary party lists of election commitments

The following lists of commitments for the 2025 election were provided to the Parliamentary Budget Officer prior to the legislated deadline of 5pm Friday, 2 May 2025. Lists are as provided by the parties and have not been altered by the Parliamentary Budget Officer.

Senator Gerard Rennick (Gerard Rennick People First Party) elected to opt in to the ECR, but did not provide a list of election commitments to the Parliamentary Budget Officer by 5pm the day before polling day.

The PBO is required to publish the lists of election commitments the day after each general election.

In preparing the PBO’s final lists of election commitments for the forthcoming Election Commitments Report2, the Parliamentary Budget Officer takes into account the information provided by the parties and independents that opt in to the report in addition to any other public commitments made during the election period that will have a material impact on the budget.

Guidance materials

In preparation for the next general election, the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) has issued a number of guidance materials to support parliamentary parties, Senators and Members.

Caretaker period costings

During the caretaker period for a general election, parliamentary parties and independent parliamentarians can request costings of their publicly announced election policies. The PBO publish these requests, complete the analysis and publicly release the costing responses as soon as possible, as per our legislation. Completed caretaker costing requests are available on our 2025 Caretaker costings page.

During the caretaker period, to submit a request for a caretaker costing, use the Caretaker Costing Request template [Download Word 69 KB].

The Charter of Budget Honesty Act 1998 outlines arrangements under which the Secretaries of the Treasury and the Department of Finance (Finance) may be requested to cost election commitments during the caretaker period for a general election. Caretaker costings completed by Treasury and Finance are available at www.electioncostings.gov.au.

Costing responses from the PBO will be prepared in a manner consistent with the costing conventions in the Charter of Budget Honesty – Policy Costing Guidelines.

For further information about these arrangements refer to PBO general election guidance 3: Costing policy proposals during the caretaker period [Download PDF 313 KB].

1 In accordance with Section 64MA(2) of the Parliamentary Service Act 1999, the Liberal Party of Australia and the National Party of Australia elected to be treated as a single designated parliamentary party for the purpose of the Election Commitments Report.

2 Section 64MA(1) of the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 requires the Parliamentary Budget Officer to release a report outlining the financial impacts of all the election commitments that have a material impact on the budget for all parties with 5 or more members (‘designated’ parties or major parties).
