The proposal would provide $25 million per year to establish a new research institute, the Centre for Climate Repair, to examine and propose measures to help draw down carbon from the atmosphere and other actions to repair the climate.

The Centre will have a particular focus on how to protect the Antarctic regions under Australia's responsibility, as the collapse of the Antarctic ice sheets, if not prevented, will drive multi-century sea level rise.

The proposal would be ongoing, indexed to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), include departmental expenses within the capped amount, and start on 1 July 2026.
