Summary of proposal

The proposal would provide $20 billion over 10 years for a Green Australia Fund to invest in biodiversity restoration through a range of projects, including the recently established Nature Repair Scheme and local council greening programs.

The program would be targeted towards threatened species and ecosystem recovery projects including but not limited to: habitat protection and restoration; monitoring and data collection; development and implementation of threatened species recovery plans, and threat abatement plans; rehabilitation of waterways; and invasive species management.

Protected Areas Fund

Summary of proposal

The proposal would provide $5 billion over 4 years to establish a Protected Areas Fund to expand and protect high-biodiversity regions, including World Heritage protection for the Great Australian Bight, and $50 million for the creation of new National Parks across Tasmania.

The funding would be distributed as $500 million in 2025-26 and 2026-27, $1.5 billion in 2027-28 and $2.5 billion in 2028-29, with departmental funding in addition to the capped amount.

The proposal would be non-ongoing and start from 1 July 2025.
