The proposal would provide $50 million over 4 years to support establishing and growing an Australian seaweed industry including research, development and extension projects for commercial seaweed aquaculture and harvesting in Australia.

The proposal would be non-ongoing, distribute funding evenly over 4 years and include departmental funding from within the capped amount.

The proposal would start from 1 July 2026.
