The proposal would:

• component 1: provide $40 million in accessible public communications and ensure safe online platforms for disabled people by increasing Auslan interpreter availability, expanding captioning requirements
  • this capped funding would be non-ongoing, distributed evenly over 4 years from 2026-27 and include departmental expenses within the capped amount.
• component 2: provide ongoing funding to establish a National Disability Telecommunications Service
  • this includes initial funding of $2 million, evenly spread over 2026-27 and 2028-29, followed by ongoing annual funding of $2 million, indexed to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The proposal would start from 1 July 2026.
