The proposal would provide $2.5 billion over 10 years in block grants to strengthen university research by supporting curiosity-driven projects and improve researchers’ job security.

The proposal would be non-ongoing, distribute funding evenly over 10 years, include departmental funding from within the capped amount and start from 1 July 2026.
