The proposal would provide $500,000 per year in funding ($5 million over the medium term) to ensure adequate and appropriate training for departmental staff so that they are equipped to appropriately assess applications from LGBTIQA+ people seeking asylum.

The proposal would be ongoing, not be indexed and would start from 1 July 2026.
